If I have a dual core processor, can i force a single application to use both cores?

I have a dual core processor and i am trying to render a 3D animation. Is there a way that i can force it to use both cores at once so that it renders it quicker?

No, if the program is bought from a store, not one of those free ones, it should already used multicores. You can’t force it to use both cores, it have to have been coded while they were making it.
